The Pianomuseum, or rather the Museum Keyboard Instruments in the castle of Stoitzendorf in Lower Austria should be regarded as one part of a bigger unit; the other parts being the concerts and the piano saleroom.
In his picturesque castle Dr. Buchner presents his collection of early keyboard instruments, covering the periods from the first half of the 17th century to the early 20th century.
You can see and listen to a CLAVICHORD, an Italien HARPSICHORD, a SPINET, several types of the PIANOFORTE (or Fortepiano, which is the same thing), and a “Clementi” SQUARE PIANO, which was indeed made by the famous composer Muzio Clementi.
Dr. Buchner calls his collection of historical pianos a LIVING MUSEUM.
The word “living” in this case means, that each of the instruments is in excellent playing condition – and is actually played during the visits in the museum. So we get the rare opportunity to listen to BACH on the HARPSICHORD, or to MOZART on the pianoforte, or to Muzio CLEMENTI on a CLEMENTI square piano.
But “living” also means, that the collection is continuously being enriched by acquiring further instruments, and, sometimes selling or exchanging instruments with other collectors or private people.
A DVD of the “living museum” is now available.
There are no guidings scheduled at the moment.
